Take ownership of your health!

Ladies and gentlemen, yes you guys too!! make sure you do a breast self exam every month!! The biggest misconception is that Breast Cancer is a "women's" disease. Breast Cancer is an equal opportunity stalker!
If you find ANYTHING that seems off, make an appointment to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible and insist on a mammogram!
As the saying goes, it is better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.
Breast Cancer can spread quickly but, has a greater chance of being curable if it is diagnosed in the early stages.
Too many times we, especially women, are hesitant to speak up, at the doctor's office if we do not get the assistance we require from a physician.
While I understand doctors are highly trained professionals, with a vast wealth of knowledge at their disposal, we need to remember they are human too. This means that doctors can have bad days, be preoccupied with personal issues, over worked, or simply don't care. Doctors as well, at times, are hindered by cost cutting efforts from institutions that restrict the amount of testing that should be done.
Also as a side note just because someone is a doctor does not mean they are a good doctor. You do not know if that physician graduated at the top of his class or just barely squeezed by with the minimum requirement to graduate.
Always ask around, and do your research to get the best health care provider possible. By shopping around, I do not mean to ask cousin Bertha about her doctor and you deciding to go to him because she thinks he's cute! Insist on the best health care provider your insurance will allow.
Remember, it is NOT your job to save your insurance company money. You pay a hefty fee for that insurance coverage, therefore open your mouth and insist on getting the services you need or want.
By taking ownership of our health it empowers us to make better health choices and to get answers sooner, rather than later.
Lastly, if a doctor tells you he thinks everything is fine, but if you want to get a second opinion, then by all means get that second opinion! You have the right to do that, and by following through it can means the difference between being able to be a cancer survivor or falling victim to this horrendous disease.
Do not wait!! As soon as you think something is not right seek medical advice, but have the voice to be your own advocate. If you do not speak up for your health, no one else will!
Have a joyous day!

Could not agree more!!! As a Mammographer for 18yrs,a woman and granddaughter to a breast cancer survivor when there were no mammograms,I've seen and heard plenty to know that you MUST BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE!!! The government should not be dictating when you should have a mammogram, self breast exam or physician breast exam. Qualified medical people should be helping you make those decisions. Don't let 1 bad experience with a doctor, mammogram exam or even a desk person deter you from taking care of yourself. Step up,speak up when needed, ask about things that can be done to make an exam a better experience or if you are not being treated correctly. IT IS NOT THE TIME TO STEP AWAY AND AVOID! As I always say to my patient's who miss their yearly exams, Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to our health! Things change quickly and only we will take care of ourselves best. Especially all us caretakers who are busy taking care of our children, husbands, parents. If you get sick, who will then take care of them? God bless and stay healthy! If you are in Chelsea,MA and in need of a mammogram I'd be happy to "squeeze" you in.

Great job for publishing such a beneficial web site. Your web log isn’t only useful but it is additionally really creative too. There tend to be not many people who can certainly write not so simple posts that artistically. Continue the nice writing..
